Beautiful, Versatile, Sunshine!

Turns out that I am beautiful, versatile and full of sunshine.  Or if not me, exactly, then my blog.  Needless to say, I am completely blown away by these accolades for my humble blog and I’ve done the happy dance and celebrated quietly for a few days already.  Now it’s time to say Thank You to the wonderful bloggers who passed on these three awards to me in the past few weeks, and to spread the joy by passing on further.  Get ready for the triple award ceremony!

SUNSHINE AWARD

The Sunshine Award was passed on to me a few weeks back by the amazing Marina Sofia. Thanks, honey, your poems and music bring sunshine to my life, too!

The award rules are:

  • Write five things about yourself
  • Include the award’s logo in a post
  • Nominate 5 other bloggers
  • Link to your nominees
  • Link the person who nominated you

I’m streamlining the ‘write five things about myself’ and combining it with the other awards at the end of this post.  (Otherwise I’d have to write my life history, and you really wouldn’t want to trawl through that…)  However, here are my five nominees with their links, in no particluar order:

Writerlious, My, My Books and I, love reading love books, The Romaniacs, The Lazuli Portals

BEAUTIFUL BLOGGER AWARD

I received the Beautiful Blogger Award from Donna over at My Life. One Story at a Time. Thanks, Donna-you know how much I love catching up on your lifestories!

I’m not entirely sure about the rules for this one, but I assume that they are as for the Sunshine Award above.  For random things about me, see below.  Here are my nominees, in no particular order:

Jennifer M Eaton, Yasmin Selena, CommuniCATE, This Write’s Life…, Dizzy Cs Little Book Blog

VERSATILE BLOGGER AWARD

It is with tremendous pleasure that I receive my third Versatile Blogger Award from Anneli at wordsfromanneli.  Thanks, Anneli, it’s always a pleasure visiting your blog and finding out about hot potatoes, grizzly bears and other life essentials over in your part of the world.

The Versatile Blogger Award is a little more involved, and here are the rules:

Thank the person who gave you this award. Include a link to their blog.  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. (I would add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!) I’ve found that it’s a bit of work to list 15, but please don’t feel that being nominated should be a burden. If you only want to nominate 8 or 10 bloggers, that’s fine too.  Nominate those bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award (you might include a link to this site) and let them know that you’ve nominated themFinally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

So once more, here are my nominees, in no particular order:

Jane Risdon, Word by WordPolly, thatpanicgirlee, UK Treasure Trove, Shirley McLain, Lynnareynolds, Jersey Girl Book Reviews, Madison Woods, Oh, for the HOOK of a BOOK, Rebecca Leith’s Blog, Forget the Housework, I’m Reading… , Been there, done that. , Kindle and Me, lynnelives

AND FINALLY:  A LIST OF RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME (AGAIN)

I hate chainletters. I do. I never participated in them as a child, and I avoid them like the plague now.  So, you ask rightly, what’s with these blog awards?  They’re not too dissimilar to chain mail, surely?  No, you’re right: they are the blogosphere equivalent of chainletters.  But they serve a different purpose.  They are visible and fun, and they connect bloggers with each other that might otherwise not find each other.  It’s all about visiblity and passing on the good vibes!

I love being on the radio.  That’s a recent discovery, but I get a real buzz out of it and could quite happily visit a radio station every day.  Perhaps I missed my career vocation?

I sweat the small stuff, but am handy in a crisis.  Little, trivial things make me lose sleep, tear my hear out, and howl in despair.  Throw me a major life crisis, especially involving blood, splinters or broken limbs, and I am calm, cool and collected.

I love all seafood except squid. Oh, and oysters. Enough said.

I used to be allergic to hazelnuts.  I did! It was a family joke; Nicky doesn’t need botox to plump her lips; she just needs to eat hazelnuts, or pralines containing even traces of hazelnuts.  (I hasten to add that I have never, nor will I ever, resort to botox, my lips are fine as they are, thank you!).  However, since my second pregnancy, that allergy has disappeared.  Don’t ask me how that’s possible, but it’s gone.  Instead, I struggle with sesame seeds now–which is a pain, considering I adore hummus and prawn toast.

One day, I want to travel all the way around the world. Can you tell I missed out on my gap year?  There’s no such thing as a ‘gap year’ in Germany; at least there wasn’t when I left school.  It was a completely alien concept to me when I arrived in the UK and found most everyone had taken off to go travelling for a year.  I wil lcatch up with you–soon!

I can’t take the heat. Clearly, I’m a precious Northern European shady flower.  That doesn’t sound right, does it?  Anyway, I can take heat. I wasn’t born to take heat. Even the modest heat waves that befall the UK from time to time are enough to send me over the edge.  Most people head for hotter climes in their hols (or retirement); me, I crave Iceland, or Newfoundland, or Canada.  Maybe Alaska.

Enough about me! Congratulations again to all the nominees today. I hope you get a chance to take up your well-deserved awards some time soon.

Meanwhile–do tell me something random about you, right here, right now. I’d love to hear it! 🙂 xx

  1. Ooh just left a comment. It’s not appeared. Hmm. Not sure if it’s gone for moderation inspection?! Hope so!! xx

    • Is this the comment you left, or was there another one? This is the only one showing and you normally can post straight onto my blog, can’t you? I was busy doing adminy things so maybe that disrupted things, sorry!! You were saying….?

      • Ah poo, I feared as much! Never mind. Am happy to say it again : ) I just wanted to congratulate you on your nominations for the blogging awards!! That is awesome, Nicky, and v.well deserved on all counts – and also to say a *big* thank you to see myself listed! That was really very kind of you : ) This month has really run away with me with being away and techy hassle but I do plan to post soon.
And also Oysters. YES. I am so with you there, never tried them raw or supped from the shell. Can’t handle the idea of eating anything alive to be honest!
But have had them smoked, and they’re yummy smoked, all firm. Everything I’ve had smoked tastes good. I don’t know why?! It’s weird as clothes smelling of smoke smell pretty unpretty… x x

p.s This time I’m copying before pasting as back-up!

      • Bless you! Glad your comment made it this time. Will take your word and try smoked oysters some time… when I work up the courage!

  2. Nicky! Got your message about the Beautiful Blogger Award! Thank you! I will cherish it and pass it on! BTW, your blog about your photo escapade encouraged me to redo my author picture last week. I’m glad I did. Check it out if you didn’t get to see it.

    Random thing about me? Hmmm….

I am an avid chair dancer. (No, I don’t mean I literally ‘dance’ with my chair for tips! LOL) Put on music while my butt is plugged into a chair or behind the wheel of my car, and I’m the best dancer in the world. Make me stand up in front of a crowd and the only dance I can do without looking stupid is the Cha Cha Slide. ROTFL!

    • HI MJ! I’m so excited that my photo post inspired you! I do think I’ve seen your new pic but I will go and double check. LOVE the chair dancing, I also greatly enjoy chair dancing (although you can also see me shake a leg on the dancefloor from time to time!) Glad you’ll enjoy the award, yay!

  3. Same as you about chain letters, which is why I was initially sceptical about blog awards. But I have discovered so many lovely bloggers through this, that I think it’s got to be a good thing. I just don’t like talking about myself, sob!
I like your picture with the glasses – did I somehow miss that in your blog on the photo session? Very chic!

    • Why, thank you kindly! Not a sight you ever thought you would see, huh? It’s an age thing and the old eyes packing in…. Thanks again for my award and as we agree, it’s a great way to meet bloggers. XX

  4. Oysters? So disgusting….Will try anything once, Oysters never again!

  5. Good to see that we’re all on the same page (so to speak) about the “chain letter” aspect of these awards. Nevertheless, they are given to people whose blogs we appreciate and they do serve a wonderful purpose; to bring bloggers together and to recognize each other’s efforts to communicate in interesting ways.

  6. Same here with the chain letters. I always tell people – if you are depending on me to keep it going – wrong! Love seafood – especially oysters! But then I’m a Southerner from coastal Louisiana! Congrats on all the awards! You deserve them! Donna

  7. joannalazuliportals

I’ve just realised I commented on your response to my blog post, but I hadn’t been here to follow up! Oh dear, brain, where did you get to? 😮

Congrats on your triple awards, Nicky – and I agree, so well-deserved. Thank you so much for our Sunshine Award, we will ‘do something with that’ soon!

Oysters – indeed, all shellfish – erm, no thanks, not for me!! I’m with you on the heat, as well – I fade like a piece of warm lettuce!

Random thingy about me – erm – I am a stationery addict. Pens, pencils, tins, paper (especially notebooks!) Got quite a collection, and will probably not use most of it since all my writing is now direct to keyboard!

Thanks for your lovely blog, Nicky – you’re one of my regular stop-offs now!

  8. Congratulations, Nicky! You are all those things and more! I’ve never understood the purpose of a chain letter. Are they still around? Handy in a crisis, huh? Man, I could have used you this morning! There’s no gap year in the States either, which is probably a good thing considering how lazy we can be. But I’d love to travel the world, too. I crave adventure and exotic locations. Who doesn’t really? And I am so with you on the heat. Maybe it’s my advanced age and the fact that I’m sliding into peri-menopause, but I literally wilt in the heat. For the most part, that’s something I never have to worry about here in Seattle. Hey, you come visit me here. You’d love the cool weather. But then again, it’s always raining. *sigh* Have a great weekend, Nicky!!

    • Ah, Nancy, I’m so glad I’m not alone in the heat thing! Seattle sounds like just my kind of place. Sorry you had a difficult morning, hope things are better now!!! Thanks for stopping by and visiting today, and for all your kind words. X

  9. Here’s something random… I just sent you an email on something completely unrelated, and then I checked my email to find THIS! Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

  10. Cate Russell-Cole

I’m honoured Nicky, thank you. Whilst trying to climb up the Amazon scale, I’ve needed a bit of encouragement and bucking up. Cheers!

  11. memybooksandi

You deserve every award you get Nicky! Thank you for passing the sunshine award onto me 🙂

I’m with you on the heat issue – I cannot stand it, whenever the sun is on full power you’ll always find me hiding in the shade! x

    • Ah, us precious flowers! Thanks for your kind words, Kate, and enjoy your Sunshine award (the irony, the irony… but take it as a metaphor: you are the sunshine, rather than I’m making you wilt in the heat…) X 🙂

  12. Congratulations on all your well deserved awards, your stars are clearly in alignment and good things are coming your way, thanks for sharing the joy and encouragement! Bonne Continuation 🙂

  13. Nicky
thank you for the award and congrats on your awards!

I am finding the UK heatwave difficult with housework 🙂

My daughter once ate squid by mistake. Battered squid which she mistook for onion rings 🙂

    carol

    • Hi Carol, so happy you like your award! Housework gets suspended when it’s this hot; I only do what I can fit in the very early hours of the morning, before 10am or so. A boyfriend’s mother once bought a bag of squid rings which she thought were onion rings. This was in the South of France and she hadn’t thought to consult the dictionary! They were revolting, I have to say. 🙂

  14. Lynn A. Reynolds

Nicky you are a very special lady. I hope I can live up to my Versatile Blogger Award. I also look forward to doing the review for ‘Sophie’s Turn”. One random thing about myself is that I’ve only been doing reviews online since July of last year. I have made so many friends this way and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I hope you are able to relax and enjoy your weekend.

    • Lynn, I am so glad that you like your award! I look forward to visiting your blog when Sophie’s Turn is relaunched. Thansk for your ‘random thing’ about yourself–I think you are a wonderful blogger, and all the more kudos to you that your first blogoversary is coming up in July. You rock!

  15. Well it’s no secret that you are beautiful, versatile, and full of sunshine. You make me smile at least once a day. Congrats on all the accolades, you deserve them, sweetheart. You make the internet a much more pleasant place to be.

    • Dana, you make me blush! Thank so much for your lovely words. I would be honoured to think that I make the Internet a nicer place! Thank for commenting, you made my day.

  16. Oooh —I hate squid too. Thanks for the tag, Nicky! I love your blog. 🙂

  17. Nicky, how wonderful to receive all these awards, well done and lots of congratulations – fingers crossed you repeat it again and again. xx

  18. Hi Nicky, thanks for the nomination – much appreciated. I have spread the word. You wanted to know a random thing about me – a hard one….well let me see…..you know I used to manage Musicians, Producers, Songwriters and so on….and that mainly I worked with Rock, R&B and Pop artists – well..one of my duties was to find outlets for their music and performances and so back in the days when it was receiving 2 billion viewers a week, in 200 countries…I placed my artists in Baywatch, on the soundtrack, writing music for it and performing as themselves in an episode….David Hasselhoff was fun, Pamela Anderson kissed my cheek and I am even in the crowd scenes – what they called Atmosphere…!! Not sure if this is what you had in mind…..
