Ho, Ho, Ho!
1 November heralds the start of the Christmas season in my house. From this day, I’m allowed to put on the Christmas rock songs and crank the stereo up loud. So I can’t think of a better day to bring you this, at last. My special mini surprise project, the one I’ve been promising you since…ooooh… May. Out today in Kindle and paperback editions via Amazon. I simply cannot tell you how excited I am about this, my third publication this year!! Give yourself up to a bit of festive fun with…
Spirits of Christmas
~ A Rock’n’Roll Christmas Carol!
There. I bet it all makes sense now… #rock #romance #ghosts #novella… the only clue I left out was #Christmas! Here’s the blurb:
At one time, up-and-coming rock singer Jude had it all: a great band, a platinum record, a loving girlfriend. This Christmas, however, he is well down the road towards spontaneous self-destruction.
Unwitting at first, Jude has progressively alienated his band and driven away the love of his life. Tonight, the night before Christmas Eve, he has broken the final taboo during a disastrous gig. Yet Jude doesn’t see how badly his life has derailed, not until a ghostly procession of legends passes through his bedroom with a series of vivid and powerful wake-up calls.
Will the Spirits help Jude put the friendship, love, and rock music back into his Christmas?
Spirits of Christmas is a modern-day rock’n’roll adaption of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. This novella will enchant romance readers, rock lovers, fans of ghost stories, and everybody who adores the festive season.
This novella is out NOW. Yes, right now!
Only £1.53 or $2.99 on Kindle, and £4.00 or $6.00 in paperback**:
Amazon.co.uk Kindle | Amazon.co.uk Paperback
Amazon.com Kindle | Amazon.com Paperback
**In fact, at this precise moment in time, Amazon has very kindly, and without my influence, discounted the paperbacks slightly, so they’re even cheaper than advertised here!! No idea how long this will last, so check it out while you can. 🙂
Why?
Well, you already know I love rock music and romance. If you’ve been hanging out around this blog for a while, you’ll also know I love the Christmas season. Writing something to combine all three was a bit of an inevitability, really!
The idea for this book came to me the very night after I launched my second book, Sophie’s Run, in February of this year. I was hyped up with excitement, I had finished writing my third book and was waiting for publisher edits, and I had already planned my fourth full-length novel. I was utterly and completely unable to sleep with everything that was going on, and quite unexpectedly, the whole story was in my head. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite Christmas stories both in the original and its many varied adaptations. I suddenly thought… why not bring it into the rock’n’roll domain?
My wonderful husband, Jon, was somewhat taken aback when I presented him with this plan the following morning.
‘I’m going to write a Christmas novella,’ I said.
‘But you’ve got another book launch in September, and you’ve planned your fourth book already—how’s this going to fit in?’ he responded enthusiastically, if pragmatic.
‘I’ll figure it out.’
And so I did. It took me just over a week to write the first draft in May 2013, and another few weeks here and there to tweak, fine-tune and polish it over the following months. But here it is. Spirits of Christmas. I hope you enjoy!
The Season of Cheer and Goodwill Starts Right Here!

Christmas Number 1!
Wouldn’t it be great if this little novella made Number 1? Then YOU would know a number-one bestselling author!! And… making Number 1 is Jude’s dream as well, after all! LOL!

Hi Nicky
I still can’t believe that when your first told us about this endeavor [it must be someplace else] giving us only three words about it, that I had been almost “spot on” [your words] with the basic storyline. Reading about the book on Amazon, I couldn’t how close I came with the thoughts in my mind about it. I also couldn’t help it, but I had a song starting to play in my mind. While the words might not fit the entire storyline, I still feel they’re quite apt for at least part of it.
If we know each other well enough, I believe I know you’re probably thinking about the song I’m referring to:
Well, with my customary musical posting I do every time I come here done and with your request for us to help spread the word about this, the moment after I hit the post button, I’ll be off to reblog this post to the blog site I’ve got linked to me here, then I’ll be copy it over to my duplicate blog on BlogSpot.
Watch for the email I’ll be sending you in a few minutes.
THANKS
Morning, Robin! Thanks for your lovely greeting, what a lovely way to start my launch day. And your song choice is spot on! In fact, at one time, that song title was the working title for the whole novella…. 🙂
You’re quite welcomed.
OMG!!! With another one of song choices being “spot on” it can mean only one thing, I need to go on a vacation/holiday. I seemed to have been spending too much time inside your head invading your “privacy.”
😀 😀 😀

A double TREAT ~ thank you, Robin, I’m honoured! 😉
You’re quite welcomed again as always. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Sounds absolutely brilliant. I love ‘A Christmas Carol’ too; I love Charles Dickens, so that goes without saying. My mum gave me a beautiful illustrated hardback copy many years ago which I read every Christmas, as well as watching at least one of the film adaptations. Combining this wonderfully feel-good festive story with rock music – genius. You never disappoint us, Nicky 🙂
I will certainly be buying a copy and helping to spread the news x x
Aww, thank you so much, Alison, I hoped it would get folks excited and it looks like I might have struck just the right chord. I saw your tweets too ~ you are a rock star. Mwah! Happy reading, I hope the Spirits live up to expectations! XX
All the best with your Christmas novella, Nicky! It sounds like it will be a great seasonal read. I’ve tweeted and shared! Rock On! #XmasSpirits
Thank you so much, Melanie, you totally rock! 🙂 I really appreciate your support and enthusiasm. Sending you huge happy smiles and all best wishes for a rocking run up to Xmas. XX
That is such a great twist on A Christmas Carol I just read the premise properly. Well done, you’ve achieved so much this year 🙂 xx
Thanks so much, Yasmin! It’s certainly been a busy old year, and I’m happy to round it off with my very own Christmas party, LOL. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, it’s always fab to see you here. XXX rock on!
I always look forward to reading any book written by you, Nicky! Congrats on your latest release (when do you rest?!), and perhaps, more to the point, combining so many passions within one book! You rock!
Awww thanks so much, Jo, you’re an angel! As to when I rest… the answer would be, from now on until Xmas. I am k.n.a.c.k.e.r.e.d!!! LOL! Hope you enjoy this little Carol, and thanks for stopping by and visiting! xx
Nicky! What a great November and December you’ve got planned! You sure get around, girl. Can I hire you as my publicist? (I’m serious.) You ROCK!
Julie, thank you so much for your kind words, you make my day. Never considered being anyone’s publicist before, I’m not really all that sure I’d be any good at it. Loving you to bits though and I’ll do anything for you, just say the word. For example… have you considered visiting my blog, perhaps? It’s only humble but I’d love to have you!!!! (I need to hear more about Alaska, bears and yodelling. AND your WiP!) xx Mwah!
This is going to be a MUST for all story lovers and rock fans. I know. I’ve read it and it is FABULOUS. And whilst I am here Nicky, make sure you add your links to my Facebook author page so everyone else can find out about it too. Rocking around the Christmas tree, have a happy Christmas read. J xx
Aww bless you, Jane, I’ll have a go. FB is funny about adding links to other people’s pages but since you so kindly invited me, I shall have a try. Watch this space… xxx 🙂
🙂 I am having a melt-down at the moment doing the piece for your blog because windows 8 is determined to drive me to drink or to Broadmoor- or both! Arrgh! Hate it. Try the links. J xx
