Giveaway!!
Today, Mandy and I are asking, what makes you feel safe/comfortable/secure?

To get you started, here’s my answer. I feel safe, comfortable and secure when the rain is lashing against the window and I sit in my lounge, with the fire going, candles lit, snuggled up under the duvet on the sofa with my lovely husband and sipping a glass of wine. Perfect scenario; even better if it was a howling snow storm!

YOUR TURN! To be in with a chance to win an e-copy of Security, leave a comment and your email address and let me know what makes you feel secure. Could it be knowing you have that secret stash of chocolate hidden away or perhaps you have a favourite piece of music that wraps you up like a blanket! Get commenting to win! Closing date 30 April 2013.

STOP PRESS! I just had word of another stunning giveaway. Says Mandy: Anyone who posts a review on Amazon until 31 May will be entered into a Rafflecopter draw to win a £25/$40 Amazon gift certificate.

AWESOME!

My Romantic Novelists’ Association Party Debut

The life of a romantic novelists appears to be one ongoing party.” Or so a friend commented when I confessed I was off to my winter ‘works do’ in London last Wednesday. (Yes, I mean the Romantic Novelists’ Association Winter Party held at the IMECE in London on 21 November 2012!!)

We have our moments,” I replied. Swallowing thoughts of long hours spent chained to my desk, typing away in my cold office, battling my way through edits and proofs, concepts, first drafts, second drafts, hundred-and-thirteenth drafts and so on. Of course, battling is an overstatement but… you know what I mean!

Anyway, a writer’s life can be lonely and overwhelming so occasions like the RNA Winter Party are merely a just equalizer, a chance to meet friends and let your hair down. Too right!

Here are a few photos of my debut RNA outing!

Glamming up and getting in the mood ~ with Mandy Baggot and Sheryl Browne!

Oh, looking a bit whited-out. Try again (said the photo-taker) and go in the middle, Nicky.

Happy to oblige! (With Anna Bell, Jan Bridgen and Mandy Baggot but having lost Sue Fortin somehow!)

Apparently, authors say ‘Whiskey’, not cheese. See, I learned something!

Meet the crew: Mandy, Sue and Sheryl!

Circle of pain. Whose feet hurt the most? Whose shoes are the worst torture instruments? I reckon mine, but Mandy did go barefoot for longest. Clockwise from 12 o’clock: Sue Fortin, Jan Bridgen, Mandy Baggot, myself and Sheryl Browne.

Ok, ladies, you can take them off now…

Mandy: “Where’s my phone?”
Sheryl: “Where are my keys?”
Mandy: “Are you hungry?”
Nicky (from the sideline): “We are taking a taxi, right?”
Sheryl: “Shall we get some dinner?”
Mandy: “I’m not walking.”
Sheryl: “Is it time go go?”
Mandy: “Where’s my phone?”
(We took a taxi back to the hotel, and we had a lovely snack-cum-dinner in the bar until almost midnight, and no more walking was done!)

The company was excellent. The canapes were delicious. Conversation sparkled. Time flew by. Until next time, my friends!

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered… and I Sang: Rocking the Festival of Romance

What can I say? It was AWESOME. I have a million photos of the amazing Festival of Romance last weekend. Not all of them came out too well owing to some very pink lighting… but here are the highlights. Oh, and in case you haven’t heard/seen: I sang. Yup, my friends, I sang a bit of a favourite rock song to introduce my reading of Sophie’s Turn. And to prove it… there’s videographic evidence!

Hall of Fame Party: Mandy Baggot launches “Taking Charge” with Sapphire Star Publishing

Roll out the red carpet!
Open the champagne!
It’s time to enter the Hall of Fame!

Today, it is my tremendous pleasure to welcome you to the Hall of Fame celebration party as Mandy Baggot launches Taking Charge with her publisher, Sapphire Star Publishing.  Let’s open the floor to Mandy to introduce herself and her book…

Well, here I am on Nicky’s Hall of Fame! Thank you for having me Nicky! Wow, Taking Charge is my fifth novel and it hardly seems possible. In the four years since my first novel was published, I’ve brought you a hot film star, an ice-skating god, an ex-Army/underwear model/escort/personal trainer, and a delicious rock musician. So what have I served up in Taking Charge?

Cole Ryan, hunk and gorgeous male hero in Taking Charge

Well, today I am introducing you to Cole Ryan. He’s handsome, athletic, intelligent and has a great sense of humour. He’s also sensitive, passionate and loyal. But besides having Cole as the hero of the piece, there are also some other equally gorgeous specimens of manhood in the shape of the Portage Panthers ice hockey team. Here are some of the main players! We have:

Mickey!  He’s tawny haired, well built and works as a mechanic. He’s easy-going, laid-back and takes life as it comes. He doesn’t really worry about anything. He lives for simple pleasures like beer and discounted pizzas. He has a good, honest heart and he’s a good friend to have. He’s a little bit of a joker and sometimes this makes him seem a bit dumb. He isn’t stupid though, just good-natured and content with his spot in life.

Brad! Brad is the ex-boyfriend of lead female character, Robyn,  and although he is the complete opposite to Cole in looks, he is equally gorgeous. He’s tall with short cropped blonde hair and he’s a police officer. He’s athletic in build with biceps like grapefruits, and he’s the character with the ice blue eyes! He likes to help people which is why he’s good at his job; but he does have a temper and can fly off the handle if he’s rubbed up the wrong way.

Henrik!  Until Cole joins the team, Henrik is unrivalled as the Portage Panthers’ best player. He’s recently moved to America and works at the local supermarket. His English isn’t the best and he sometimes gets teased by the team when he gets phrases wrong. He’s tall with brown spiky hair and some designer stubble he goes to great lengths to get just right. He’s a real ladies’ man and the crazy one of the team. He does what he wants and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. He loves hot-tubs and no one in Portage knows what nationality he really is!

So, that’s some of the boys! I hope that’s intrigued you enough to find out more!

It certainly has… and that’s why there’s a little more info about Taking Charge below.  But meanwhile, Mandy has another treat for us, haven’t you?

I certainly do!  OK, the last thing! To give you a flavour of the music of the town I have included a playlist of songs in Taking Charge. And here I am performing one of them for you!

Taking Charge:  Is going back Robyn’s only way forward?

American-born Robyn Matthers is going home. With her dad in hospital, his roadhouse in ruins and the ice hockey team slipping down the league, she needs to take charge. But does she have the strength to do it?

Cole Ryan is a hockey player on a personal mission. He’s tall, dark, hot and Robyn’s noticed! But can she trust her feelings – or his? And what will Cole do when he finds out the truth about her?

With an ill father, a trailer trash step-mom and ex-boyfriend Brad desperate for another chance, does Robyn have time to contemplate a relationship? Can she start again? Does she really want to? And can two people really fall in love in three days?

You can buy Taking Charge on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com from today! And don’t forget to join the party on Twitter using hashtag #TCParty–see you there!
