HELP NEEDED! Sophie is a Finalist for Best Heroine!

So this morning I’m logging on to Facebook, quite innocently, after a lovely and buzzing book launch the previous day… and I come across this bombshell of a news item.

2014finalist

Sophie is a finalist in the eFestival of Words Awards 2014! She was previously nominated for Best Heroine and now made it to the final stages. Wooohooo! To say I was somewhat floored (in a good way) would be an understatement. Squeeeee!

Here’s the thing. At this stage, is up to you whether Sophie wins. Yes, you!

Sophie needs your vote!

The bad news is…For Sophie to win, she needs the most public votes.

The good news is….Anyone can vote. YOU can vote!

Simply follow this link, register, and go to the Best Heroine category to cast your vote for Sophie Penhalligan. Sophie and I would be eternally grateful!!

Grand Opening of the BookStop Cafe Lincoln ~ 4th May 2013

Huge congratulations to Joff Gainey and Becky Lindley on fulfilling a
life- long dream!

This past Saturday, 4th May 2013, they opened the BookStop Cafe Lincoln. The idea is brilliant: a book shop that supports independent and local authors where you can sit and drink a fabulous cup of coffee and have some cake. Or, to stand the idea on its head: a coffee shop where you can sit leisurely and drink a fabulous cup of coffee… whilst also perusing, and purchasing if you so wish, some of today’s best fiction as brought to you by the local and independent authors that Joff stocks. AWESOME!

It was my great pleasure to be present for the Grand Opening and here are some photos for you to share in the excitement.

Cut, cut, cut that ribbon, Joff and Becky!

#RadioAddict strikes again: Live on Air with Nicola Gilroy at BBC Radio Lincolnshire

This radio thing is becoming a habit and an addiction. I can’t help it!

O

Yesterday, the fabulous Nicola Gilroy invited me onto the afternoon show at BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Take no notice of my deer-caught-in-the-headline look, I have a most amazing time. Nicola asked me about Sophie’s Turn (and Sophie’s Run), my inspiration for writing, the writing (and planning) process as well as my journey to publication. Oh, and we talked about rock music. Obviously. She even played Whitesnake for me, right there, on the show. Needless to say, I played the air guitar. Luckily for Nicola, I didn’t sing along. (Though I was tempted!)

Here’s a link to the iPlayer of this show. It will be functional until end of day, Monday, 28 January. You can find ‘my’ segment from 10 minutes in up to 29 minutes!

Rock on, and thanks for listening. 🙂

PS. While I was sitting in the waiting area at BBC Radio Lincoln, I couldn’t help but reflect on the increasing number of times I’ve been getting to enjoy myself on the radio of late, and how that delicious cocktail of pre-interview nerves always gives me a buzz that lasts through the rest of the day. I might just blog about this in more detail in the coming week or so. What do you reckon?

Second appearance on Siren FM Midweek Drive ~ rock star addiction, advances, and the right way to hold your fork!

Well, I’ve got to hand it to Alex, Claire, Ed and Fien and everybody who called in. I didn’t think making radio could be SO much fun. It was like standup comedy, and the laughs we shared in studio still reverberate in my ears. (Thankfully, they will remain private jokes for ever more… What goes on in studio, stays in studio, ha!)

Last week Wednesday (5 December), I took part in my Second Midweek Drive over at Siren FM.

Also in studio were Alex Lewczuk, Claire Parker, Ed Wellman (for a little while), and Fien Hiel.

Siren 5 Dec

Of course, no opportunity goes unmissed for sharing Sophie’s Turn with the world… and Alex promised to put the little Christmas flyer up somewhere prominent for me: Thank you!

Well, it was awesome and I can’t wait to do it again!!

In fact, I’ll be back in studio on December 21 for the Siren FM 24-hour Broadcasting Marathon to ward off the End of the World which is due according to the Mayan calendar, so more news about thatafter the fact (if possible). 🙂

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered… and I Sang: Rocking the Festival of Romance

What can I say? It was AWESOME. I have a million photos of the amazing Festival of Romance last weekend. Not all of them came out too well owing to some very pink lighting… but here are the highlights. Oh, and in case you haven’t heard/seen: I sang. Yup, my friends, I sang a bit of a favourite rock song to introduce my reading of Sophie’s Turn. And to prove it… there’s videographic evidence!

So here’s to next year: let’s do it again, baby!

Off to Rock the Festival of Romance 2012 @romancefest

So! The day is finally here!

I’m off to Bedford (UK) to rock the Festival of Romance.

I’ll be going to Friday night’s gala, and I’ll be there all day Saturday to chat, meet people, and sign books.

I’m also taking part in the Readathon at 2pm AND I’m co-hosting the Rock Star Party at 5:30pm. Doesn’t that sound awesome?

I’ve retrieved not one, but two wheelie suitcases to contain all my stuff… clothes… books… and more. Will it all fit?

Here’s a selection of my glammest outfits.

Can’t wait to get dressed up! No pyjamas and toast crumbs for me this weekend. The outfits will go in the pink carry-on case. Apart from The Dress, which I’ll carry separately with one of the many additional arms I will magically grow overnight.

(Question: who else do you know that I talk about a lot who uses a pink carry-on suitcase at all times…???)

And here are all my authorly accoutrements. They clearly won’t all fit in the blue wheelie. More arms needed.

Rock on!

I’ll post a photographic diary of my version of events right here on this blog next week. After all, many of my loveahappyending.com friends will be there, plus The Romaniacs, plus many more fantastic authors and lots and lots of wonderful readers. It’ll be AWESOME!

Hope to see you there,
if you can make it.

🙂

In the presence of illustrious guests~my Midweek Drive debut on Siren FM

Co-hosting a radio show for a couple of hours?

Talking about Sophie’s Turn live on air to all manner of interesting and awe-inspiring people?

Offering short readings of Sophie’s Turn live on air, right there and then?

Sure, bring it on, I’m game!

In fact, it already happened. On October 24, 2012, I had the tremendous pleasure of hosting the Siren FM midweek drive show from 5pm to 7pm, alongisde chief presenter Alex Lewczuk and co-hosts Katie Grimason and Ed Wellman (and Tom, for a short spell).

Here’s me with Ed (back left), Tom (back right) and Katie (front right) in the Siren FM studio. Dream team!

And it was the most awesome experience. Take a look at the roll call of people who phoned in and chatted about their own projects… and listened to or talked about Sophie’s Turn:

Cameron Tilbury
CEO of Maple Star Music & Media

Sam Owen
MBPsS BSc- Relationships coach, Psychologist

 Arthur Weingarten
Writer/Producer ( Murder She Wrote, Ironside, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Addams Family)

Michele Monro
with another top selection from her Father Matt Monro‘s back catalogue

 Sarah Pinborough
Award winning author whose credits include The Dog-Faced Gods trilogy and Torchwood.

Phil Leirness
with more reflections from LA

I know. Incredible! Here’s your chance to listen. I won’t upload the files as a two-hour programme makes too huge a file, but here are the links to the podcast, in two parts.

Part 1

Lincolnshire writer Nicky Wells makes her Midweek Drive debut and shares rock stories with Cameron Tilbury from Nashville, discusses relationship strategies with ace coach Sam Owen  before heading to new York and premier writer/producer Arthur Weingarten accompanied by Alex Lewczuk, Katie Grimason & Ed Wellman ( original TX for The Midweek Drive on www.sirenonline.co.uk Wed Oct 24th 2012 )

~Also featuring: a reading of Sophie’s Turn by Alex Lewzcuk (at o4.00 approximately)

Part 2

The penultimate Midweek Drive of October 2012 connects Michele Monro with Ed Wellman & Katie Grimason & continues with the welcome return of award-winning writer Sarah Pinborough sharing her thoughts with Nicky Wells about the modern writing process and setting another sight-reading challenge for Alex Lewczuk ( original TX for The Midweek Drive on www.sirenonline.co.uk Wed Oct 24th 2012)

~Also featuring: brief on-air intro to Sophie’s Turn (at 01:10 approximately) another short reading of Sophie’s Turn by me (at 13:10 approximately)

🙂

And the best thing?

I’ve been invited back! I’ll have another chance to do it all again in early December ~ how excited am I?

Thanks for having me on the show, Alex!

So. My strategy for blundering through unexpectedly meeting outstandingly talented, interesting and successful people? Well… I laugh a lot. And I talk a lot.

What’s yours?
