It’s Music Monday!

We’re still in the hot zone and the magic is still working! So by popular request, here’s The Man. The opening riff has me jumping off my seat every single time without fail. It has to be one of the best opening riffs… ever, even if it’s only just rock.

I’m still taking suggestions to keep the nice, warm, sunny weather going so go on, come up with more Hot Songs!

Contenders from previous weeks are:

~Dancing in the Moonlight (Toploader)
~Sound and Vision (David Bowie)
~Hot Stuff (Donna Summer)
~Summer in the City (Lovin’ Spoonful)
~In the Summertime (Mungo Jerry)
~Rio (Duran Duran)
~Summetime (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince)
~Summer in the City (Joe Cocker)
~Heat of the Moment (Asia)
~Hot Hot Hot (Arrow)
~Boys of Summer (Don Henley)
~Too Hot to Sleep (Survivor)
~Surfin USA (Beach Boys)

What a hot playlist ~ any more suggestions??

Hot in the City

Last week, I posted a cold song and invited you all to make suggestions for a hot song to break the freezing cold weather spell. Well, it worked! All right, it’s hardly tropical but the sun’s been out all week and there’s life erupting all over the garden. Roll on spring (and for goodness’ sake, don’t stop now!).

Thank you all for your most excellent suggestions. I thought I might take you up on your ideas and start posting the ‘hot’ songs over the coming week, always assuming that there are official versions available. Robin already posted her response in video format in her response of last week, so I took the remaining songs and picked the first one out of a hat. And this week’s choice is…

AWE-SOME!! Well, that takes me right back! We’ll be on to another hot song next week so meanwhile, keep the suggestions coming. Remember, our goal is to keep the sun shining and the mood sunny! Rock on!

I hope you’ve all enjoyed your Easter celebrations, if you’re celebrating indeed. Well, with that more or less out of the way, it really should be time for spring, right? But it is April 1 and… it’s still freezing cold. So here’s my ode to April. Maybe that’ll break the spell…

How’s about you help me out and let me have some HOT songs?

Rock on!

I Belong To The Night

It’s Music Monday!

And oh my god, I’m still reeling from an out-of-this-world FM show on Friday night. I have seen them so often now and still I get blown away every single time, without fail. So I’m dedicating this week on my blog to FM. Today, I’m posting one of the great songs that featured on the set list; and on Friday this week, I’ll be offering you a blow-by-blow account of what the gig was like, photos, interview and all. Rock on!

Meanwhile…. *sings*  I belong to the night…

Oh man, it was rocking, hopping and fantastic. I can’t wait to share the full story with you. Hold on to your hats…

Who’s your blow-me-away-every-time artist?

Today I’m shooting from the hip, in a manner of speaking. What I mean by that is that I have no specific reason for posting this song other than… well, I love it. There’s a surprise.

Frankly, I can’t believe I haven’t posted this before. I just love the song (and I don’t even like Rocky, other than in Rocky chocky bars). It was playing on the radio over the weekend and my kids and I rocked out in the kitchen together, headbanging, air guitar, drums and all. (They’re getting the right education here, evidently). You simply CANNOT beat the rush that comes from that so here goes… Get ready to sing along!

What’s your “I simply have to get up and rock” song?

Tough Love

Oh, and it’s a very special Music Monday indeed. On Saturday, I received this gem in the post:

Rockville

I cannot tell you how excited I am. Yes, this is ROCKVILLE ~ the brand new offering by one of my all-time favourite bands, UK rockers FM. And, I note gleefully, it’s a signed copy too. Of course, nothing else would do!!

As soft spots go, I have a massive one for this band. I’ve followed them for nearly all my adult life, ever since I first saw them in Bielefeld, Germany. I might have bumped into them on the odd occasion here or there, just once or twice. I adore their music and have all their albums. Indiscreet is probably my all-time favourite album, like, ever. (I know that’s two all-time favourites in one post; very bad form, stylistically speaking, but it can’t be helped!) And Tough It Out  has seen me through just about everything exciting, challenging or changing in my life, not least moving to England in the first place.

So here we have it, the latest work of musical art from these genius rockers. The  line-up features:

The Voice ~ Steve Overland
Bass ~ Merv Goldsworthy
Drums ~ Pete Jupp
Keyboards ~ Jem Davis
Guitars ~ Jim Kirkpatrick

This is the feature promo song for ROCKVILLE:

And this is one of my favourite songs from Indiscreet:

Do you get the idea that I really like FM? I’m going to see them, VIP package and all, in twelve short days and you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll hear all about that!

Thank you for tuning in today and I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you reckon of today’s offering?

Today I’m sharing a song that’s captivated me this past week. The lyrics are quite fascinating and seem to capture the essence of misunderstanding between woman and man. I totally love the juxtaposition of her and his viewpoint. Not to mention that the voices work beautifully together. Plus, of course, I’m a sucker for ballads that are heavy on the piano and feature strong, clear voices. Perfect song all round, as far as I’m concerned.

What’s your favourite duet?

Ho Hey

It’s Music Monday!

Today I’d like to share with you a song that’s slowly crept into my consciousness of late. Everytime it’s on the radio, I feel myself singing along softly, strumming an imaginary guitar, bopping my head, and going, ho, hey!

It’s gentle but powerful. I like the guitars and the rhythm and the chanting. (Do you call it chanting? Or is it shouting? Well, you know what I mean). I’m determined to check out more by this band. Ho hey, sit back and enjoy!

Have you got a song that’s a slow burner for you but that really makes your day?

Do you ever randomly go through your CD collection (if you happen to have one, these days) and suddenly stumble across an album that you used to have on continuous play but that you haven’t listened to in absolute aeons?

Well, I did, over the weekend, and here’s what I found. I’m absolutely enchanted all over again. In fact, I had a really hard time deciding whether I wanted to bring you the album opener or another of my favourites, but this has a certain… relevance to my books (and my life, LOL, but that’s a different story), so here it is.

Now tell me: what’s your long-forgotten favourite?

And what a week it’s been since I last posted here. A radio party and a book launch on two consecutive days. Both went well and left me reeling with excitement and joy. Now it’s time to take the book on tour, and I needed a slow, mellow song to allow myself to get my breath back and to set a good pace for the months to come.

A new favourite singer came to mind. She has simply got the most astounding voice, she’s an outstanding live performer and she writes meaningful lyrics. So I give you…

Later in the week, I’ll be posting an update on how the launch went and what I’ve been up to since. Meanhile, I raise my glass in a little toast to everyone who supported me these past few days, weeks, months, and years…

…and I want to know, have you been captured by the magic of Emeli Sande yet?
